Grass fed Kiwi Beef. Craft Brewer and Publican. Wine.

For Publican Blair Hayden the move to wine was a natural progression after a life dedicated to artisan food and beverage. For founding member and custodian of renowned brewpub, The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel, the move was also one of passion and the desire to put an inheritance from his beloved mother into dirt.

Into land.

A vision and passion realised when introduced to a little vineyard located in Light Pass, The Barossa, in 2011. A little vineyard he now calls lot 462.

Lot 462 is an exciting site because of the heritage of its up to 100 year old vines, unique terroir and its elevation, at 330 metres above sea level.

Once purchased and with ensuing years devoted to intensive vineyard resurrection and management, the next step was to build some infrastructure on the land. lot 462’s neighbour and good family friend, Ben Chipman of Tomfoolery Wines, was already doing some pretty interesting things with his single vineyard wines but was processing offsite. So a winery and sheds were built on both sides of the driveway that separates the two properties and today the brands work hand in hand to produce some very special estate grown wines.

2015 saw the culmination of the vineyard reinvigoration, leading to a portfolio available for release under the lot 462 label for the first time. With dedicated small batch winemaking including hand picking, whole bunch pressing and open fermenting; lot 462 wines are reflective of the unique terroir of the area, the heritage of the vines and Blair’s passion for the craft of winemaking.

Terra Rossa soil abounds, afternoon breezes flow across from the Valley and with Shiraz from nearly 100 year old vines, Chardonnay, Grenache, soon Gamay (possibly the Barossa’s first) and Mataro the flagship, lot 462 wines are limited release bites of a very special place.

We invite you to savour.
